Description | Tourism has been a key sector of the economy by playing a primary role in foreignexchange income for the Kenya. Additionally, the sector has great multiplier effects asits growth excites more development in other activities. The tourism industry accountsfor a significant employment, and contributes approximately 9% to GDP; 18% ForeignExchange earnings and is a major source of National Government revenue at 11%.The objective of this policy is to procedurally re-engineer the modus operandi of thetourism sector in Makueni County, clarify and consolidate roles of various stakeholdersand partners including the private sector. This will simplify the continued developmentof an economic and environmentally viable and balanced tourism sector throughunderstanding the internal and external needs and opportunities available in the sector.The policy identifies objectives that need to be addressed, strategies and the relevantactors. It will provide the necessary direction to support a competitive and sustainabletourism sector and give clear direction to tourism stakeholders and partners forcarrying out their operational programmes.In pursuant with the CIDP2018-22, the policy espouses fundamental guiding principlesthat should inform its implementation and actions that enhance sustainable tourism inthe County; in the key areas of promotion and marketing of tourism. It proposesinnovative ways of making Makueni County a tourist destination.Further, the policy highlights tourism products and services, research, informationdissemination and management, infrastructure, safety and security.The policy provides for development of a legal and institutional framework for effectivecoordination and management of the sector to enhance cross and inter-sectoral linkagesas well as building of public private partnerships.Finally, I invite fellow Makuenians and Kenyans at large to take advantage of theopportunities that come with this policy. |
